Carved and silvered wooden console, Naples, early 18th century
Description:
Carved and silvered wooden console, Naples, early 18th century Measurements: 144 x h 91.5 x d 69 cm Price: confidential negotiation Object accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This console in finely carved and silvered wood, represents a remarkable example of the decorative repertoire typical of Louis XIV, with elements of particular sumptuousness for the sculptural resolution of the carving, fitting into the Baroque period as an example of Neapolitan cabinet making. The piece of furniture has a sculpted band with elements of large vegetal volutes and a rich shell carving on the central part. The four legs are characterized by an arched movement, joined by crosspieces with an elaborate sculpted volute decoration in the center. Of particular value is the top, in molded flowered alabaster. In the important Italian palaces between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, consoles were among the most sought-after furnishings, an emblem of the client's wealth, to be displayed in large reception halls. This type of highly decorative furniture is still of great scenic effect and contributes to the majesty of any environment that houses it. The light color conferred by the silver makes this furniture very bright and graceful, easily insertable in ancient but also modern furnishing contexts.
