Description:
Pair of half-moon chests of drawers in lacquered and gilded wood with marble top, Piedmont, Neoclassical period, late 18th century Measurements: cm H 86.5 x W 125 x D 60 Price: confidential negotiation Object accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This pair of elegant chests of drawers was made in the Piedmont area in the Neoclassical period, second half of the 18th century. The wooden structure is lacquered in shades of blue-green and ivory with gilded reserves and details. Half-moon shaped, they have a marble top shaped near the uprights, two front drawers and, on the sides, open compartments divided by a shelf. The front of the drawers and the uprights, lacquered in blue, are surrounded by a gilded reserve and ivory lacquered bands. The open compartments are lacquered in blue and surrounded by an ivory band with a gilded profile. The band under the top has a molded and gilded reserve. The four truncated cone-shaped legs, fluted and lacquered in blue and ivory, originate from a circular gilded wooden element and end with a tip carved with an acanthus leaf and a circular gilded and blue lacquered element. The drawers are equipped with locks and circular bronze handles finely chiseled with neoclassical bow motifs and gilded. This pair of chests of drawers, of modest dimensions and with an unusual design with open compartments, refined and very elegant, can be placed in pairs or individually in various environments, such as entrances and corridors, lounges and studies, bedrooms. Pleasant if combined with antique furniture, they are equally suitable in contexts characterized by modern furnishings. Restoration of the lacquer in the 19th century.
