The antique painting is signed in the lower right by Marie Calvés, a French genre painter of landscapes and animals.
Marie Didiére Calvés (1883-1957) was born in Paris and was a student and daughter of Léon Georges Calvès.
She exhibited regularly at the Salon Des Artistes Français until 1940. She mainly painted animals.
Some of her paintings are on display in the Gres museum.
It also has an authentic and coeval carved and lacquered wooden frame from the 20th century painting.
The painting and frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
