Vienna 1815-20 approx. Rare weekly chest of drawers from early Viennese Biedermeier veneered in burr walnut, in practically intact wooden condition and with patina. The cabinet, with its warm and golden patina, boasts refined details in animal bone; it has been restored with a museum-standard shellac french polish finish. It measures cm. 142 high, 70 wide, 36 deep. The master cabinetmakers of the Biedermeier period knew the locations where the best trees grew and kept them secret. To obtain veneers with such beautiful grains, they also knew the best parts of the tree and cut them with great skill, obtaining wood effects that constitute the particular attraction of true Biedermeier furniture and represent a uniqueness and excellence in the world of high antique furniture of all eras.
