Vienna 1815-20 approx. Rare chest of drawers, early Viennese Biedermeier, veneered in walnut burl in practically intact wooden condition and with patina. The piece of furniture, with a warm and golden patina, boasts refined animal bone (or bone) details; it has been restored with a museum-standard French polish finish. It measures cm. 142 high, 70 wide, 36 deep. The master cabinetmakers of the Biedermeier period knew the places where the best trees grew and kept the secret. To obtain veneers with such beautiful patterns, they also knew the best points of the tree and cut the parts with great skill, obtaining wood effects that constitute the particular attraction of true Biedermeier furniture and represent a uniqueness and excellence in the world of high antique furniture of all eras.
