Magnificent and rare neoclassical pair  Translated
Description:
Magnificent and rare neoclassical pair consisting of two "papier peint" panels taken from the decor of Ovid's Metamorphoses, attributed to the Manufacture of "Arthur et Grenard Manufacture", (distinguished royal manufactory in 1788), Paris, circa 1785: "The Sacrifice of Iphigenia", surmounted by a lunette "putti with lyre" "Scylla Rejected by Minos", surmounted by a lunette "autumn" printed on slate board in sepia/grisaille mounted on linen canvas and framed. dimensions: 151cm x 97.5cm each (8'2 x 2'7 feet, each). The Metamorphoses of Ovid are exceptional decorations with an architectural character composed of eight mythological scenes. Considered a true icon in the history of papier peint, it is characterized by the precision of the design, the quality of the printing, and the richness of the colors. At the time, only a limited edition was produced and very few examples have survived to the present day. The decor is therefore important, rare and very significant. Some old restorations are understandably present and visible, given the era and use, and they are not sold separately. Paris, last quarter of the 18th century  Translated
