Large Venetian root veneer trumeau, with a two-mirrored-door lift, a wavy front with three drawers, a gilded wooden emblem, 18th century, cm 276x220x70
In its magnificence, this "trumeau" represents, due to its proportions, elegant shapes and concave movements, the apogee of 18th-century Venetian cabinet making. A superb example of the Venetian repertoire that, unfortunately, remains without an author due to the lack of documents. What is certain is that, due to the quality of execution, we can hypothesize the hand of a master craftsman and, for the client, the aristocracy or the wealthy merchant class. Born to furnish a wall as an object of representation, in addition to its imposing beauty, the piece of furniture must also have had a function, as demonstrated by the drawers and doors on the front and the double small shaped doors on the sides in the lower part. As is known, this type of Venetian furniture is often lacquered or decorated with poor art to simulate the richer lacquering, but there are just as many, like the one presented, root veneered furniture. In fact, the skillful combination of root panels, which follow the movements and inlays often accompanied by gilded wooden friezes, constitutes the true decorative richness.
