Adoration of the Shepherds  Translated
Description:
Oil on canvas depicting "Adoration of the Shepherds" by Giovanni Domenico Ferretti, known as l'Imola (Florence 1692-1768). Ferretti was one of the most important painters, both in fresco and on canvas, of the Tuscan Rococo. He was a pupil in Florence of Tommaso Redi and Sebastiano Galletti, while in Bologna he worked in the workshop of Felice Torelli and his wife Lucia Casalini. Furthermore, also in Bologna, he had as masters the great Giuseppe Maria Crespi and Giovanni Giuseppe dal Sole. All this meant that the Tuscan classicist school and the great Emilian-Padan tradition merged in him, giving rise to a pictorial career of great originality. His frescoes can be found in many churches and noble palaces in Emilia and Tuscany. Furthermore, his works on canvas can be found at the Uffizi Museum, the Civic Museum of Pisa, the Chambery Museum, etc. The painting, dating back to around 1740, was restored in 1970. Canvas measurements 84x112. With frame 96x124  Translated
