18th century, Naples
Console Table
Carved and gilded wood, Spanish Brocatelle marble top, cm 93 x 132 x 67
This is a piece of furniture of the highest quality and is a version of the French "console" in vogue in Naples in the 18th century. The carved and gilded wooden console has a Spanish Brocatelle marble top with a shaped edge in a characteristic golden yellow color interspersed with red-violet hues. While maintaining a calibrated symmetry, the structure is perfectly in tune with the forms of the "Neapolitan Baroque". The front is animated and sculpted with leaves, flowers and curls that are repeated as a leitmotif also along the sides. The legs are shaped as opposing volutes on foliaceous feet.
