Workshop of the Bassano family - ''Dinner at the mansion of rich Epulone'', late 16th century  Translated
Description:
Oil on canvas of considerable dimensions, rich in details and permeated by a lively chromaticism. The scenic setting, the figures and the theme are typical of the works that came out of the workshop of the Bassano family, a famous family of painters who worked in Veneto between the second half of the sixteenth century and the early seventeenth century, and in this case very close to the modus operandi of Leandro and Gerolamo da Ponte who may have executed it. The painting depicts a scene taken from the biblical parable of Lazarus and the dinner of rich Epulone and intends to illustrate, as in other parables, mercy and piety towards the poor, but it also has particular importance for its references to life after death. The measurements of the painting are: 117cm x 91cm including frame of the '900s decorated with faux marble and intagli ghioscè are: 136cm x 112cm We attach to the sale a certificate of authenticity that proves its age and originality.  Translated
