This neoclassical chest of drawers was made in Piedmont in the second half of the 18th century, in carved and lacquered wood.
The rectangular top with rounded corners is lacquered to imitate marble. Through a drop-leaf opening system, the top can be opened by pressing a button on the front, which releases the closure. Underneath the top, therefore, a secret compartment is concealed, useful for storing documents or small objects.
The chest of drawers has three drawers, with keyhole escutcheons and handles in gilded and chiseled bronze with neoclassical ornaments, including ribbons and bows. The drawers are decorated with raised, molded frames. The recessed and projecting spaces that are created are lacquered with different colors. The recesses are in light blue, some frames in blue and others in yellow, as is the center of the front of the drawer. Likewise, the under-top band has light blue recesses and a blue molded frame. Near the corners, the wood is carved in the shape of a fluted pilaster and lacquered in yellow and blue. The sides of the piece of furniture have a yellow recess enclosed within a blue frame, light blue recesses and an external yellow frame. In the corners of the blue frames of the furniture there are wooden elements lacquered in yellow with a circular shape that contribute to the decor of the furniture and the chromatic play. The four lacquered wooden feet are in the shape of an inverted truncated cone, leaf elements, flutes and circular wooden tips.
This chest of drawers preserves the elegance of the time, very decorative for its particular color scheme. Easy to place in any furnishing context, it can be used in entrances, living rooms, studies, bedrooms and bathrooms, making it suitable for storing both documents and personal and clothing items. Its particular dimensions make it a capacious piece of furniture and difficult to find on the antique market.
