Lombardy, 17th century, Coat of Arms  Translated
Description:
Lombardy, 17th century Coat of Arms Polychrome and gilded wood, cm h. 46 Signed "H.S.F." and dated 1630 The item in question represents a noble coat of arms in polychrome and gilded wood, attributable to Lombard manufacture of the 17th century, signed and dated in its central part "H.S.F. 1630", initials of the representative family. Between the two writings appears the image of a bird with a sword, typical heraldic elements, all circumscribed by a gilded oval frame. The ends of the shield are decorated with two cherub heads whose wings, also gilded, surround the central part. The coat of arms was also called "arma" because the term comes from the armor that knights wore in the Middle Ages and on which they depicted their coats of arms, which we find painted on shields and embroidered on the surcoat and caparison of their horses. The shield alone with the coat of arms allows one to identify a family, but weapons are needed to identify the individual since they also represent the elements that indicate, for example, the possible titles of nobility of the family and the person.
