The work depicts a scene of great charm. Venus, the splendid Goddess of Beauty, is intent on her toilette aided by three attentive handmaidens who can be identified as the three Graces. ------
It is a pleasant canvas from the Bolognese school, created by a talented 17th-century painter, a follower of Francesco Albani, and constitutes an interesting variation of the famous work exhibited at the Louvre museum. The Goddess is comfortably reclined on an armchair, intent on admiring herself in the mirror, while the nymphs arrange her hairstyle for the amorous encounter with the handsome Adonis. -----
All around the main scene there is a fluttering of little angels, following the most characteristic dictates of Albani's French-influenced painting. ------
The scenic layout is reversed compared to the canvas in the Louvre, while maintaining a very similar composition in the arrangement of the figures and the architectures, among which the elegant silhouette of a Renaissance palace stands out in the center of the canvas. -----
