Pair of corbeille sofas in carved and lacquered wood, France, Louis XVI period, second half of the 18th century
Description:
Pair of corbeille sofas in carved and lacquered wood, France, Louis XVI period, second half of the 18th century. Measurements: cm L 157 x H 101 x D 80; seat H 55 with cushion Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity The refined pair of corbeille sofas, made in France in the second half of the eighteenth century, Louis XVI period, has a semi-ovoid structure whose back turns laterally continuing in a single enveloping curve that forms the armrests. The wooden structure, entirely lacquered, is carved with neoclassical motifs, namely floral and phytomorphic decorations. The frame, which has a slightly curved and molded pattern, runs to draw the backrest, the stylized curl armrests, the under-seat band and the legs. The latter, eight in number, are truncated inverted cones, fluted and originate from a quadrangular element centered by a flower-shaped carving. The two-seater sofas are upholstered in fabric in good condition. These sofas are very graceful as a whole: they are in fact particularly decorative and the enveloping shape, as well as the graceful legs, make their size optically very discreet. Furthermore, they are particularly suitable to be combined, in pairs or individually, with contemporary as well as period furnishings. They can also be used as center sofas.
