This fine Desserte à Demi-lune buffet cabinet dates back to the last quarter of the 19th century and was made in England from satinwood. Satinwood is characterized by a light color with a silk-like sheen and a fine streaking with alternating light and dark areas. The cabinetmaker who created this piece of furniture has skillfully combined the wooden panels to create decorative effects by playing with the grain.
The style is based on the design of furniture by Thomas Sheraton, the famous London cabinetmaker, who marked an important moment in the history of English furniture between 1792 and 1805. Sheraton spread the style that takes its name from him and which is distinguished by the lightness of the design, linear shapes, simple but of refined elegance, underlined by the delicacy of the ornamental elements, entrusted to carving and inlay techniques, and by the use of precious woods.
This demi-lune sideboard is raised on four turned legs, corresponding to pilasters that run the height of the piece. It has three drawers, including a large central one, decorated with inlays depicting garlands and bows. The bronze handles feature a plaque with a neoclassical vase. Centrally, it has a door with a panel decorated with exquisite inlays with vases of flowers, ribbons, neoclassical elements and an octagonal medallion with a classicizing figure in grisaille. Inside there are two large compartments, as well as in the side parts there are two small shelves also veneered in satinwood.
Buffet furniture is very versatile: it adapts to any room in the house, from the entrance to the living room, and offers endless possibilities for use.
