Francesco de Mura (Naples 1696-1782) SOLD
Description:
"Samson and Delilah" oil on canvas by Francesco de Mura (Naples 1696-1782). After attending Domenico Viola's workshop for about a year, de Mura entered that of Francesco Solimena and remained there until 1730. Our painting can have a chronological placement, due to stylistic affinities with other paintings of his still strongly influenced by Solimena's examples after 1720, with the canvases of 1725-30 for the "Collegiata dell'Assunta" in Castel di Sangro in Abruzzo and those with the "Stories of San Bertario" for the destroyed Abbey of Montecassino and with the "Sacrifice of Iphigenia " from the Museum of Art of Rhode Island. The painting is in good condition and is inserted in a splendid 18th century gilded frame. Canvas dimensions 125x105 with frame 165x125
