Pond in the Woods  Translated
Description:
Luigi Crisconio (Naples 1893 - Portici 1946) "Pond in the Woods" signed lower left. oil on panel Dimensions 50 x 60 frame 60 x 70 Perfect condition We present this beautiful unpublished painting by the Neapolitan painter Luigi Crisconio, one of the great Neapolitan artists of the 20th century, and we propose it as one of his significant works. The good size distinguishes it, in fact, from its substantial production almost exclusively painted on small panels. The painting is in fact very interesting and we propose it at a particularly convenient price as it is unrelated to the type of our works that does not include 20th century painting. Author's biography: Luigi Crisconio was born in Naples on August 25, 1893. Although not well disposed towards official painting, in 1913 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. The aversion to academic teaching was mitigated by the admiration for Michele Cammarano, holder of the chair of landscape painting, whose teaching was decisive in his training. In 1919 he graduated from the Academy and, while taking his first steps in the wake of the great southern pictorial civilization, similar to traditional vedutism, he detached himself from the contents associated with them to conquer an autonomous and frankly contemporary language. In 1927 the artist met Elisabetta Amato, with whom he fell in love and became his model, reproduced in a long series of works, alternating with numerous self-portraits, landscapes and still lifes; in Crisconio's painting an affinity with the last Cézanne can be noted. In 1929 he successfully participated in the Universal Art Exhibition in Barcelona In 1928 - 1930 - 1934 - 1938 - 1940 - 1942 he participated by invitation in the Venice Biennale and in 1942 obtained a personal room, From 31 to 40 he participates in the Rome Quadrennials After moving with his mother to Portici in 1934, two years later he married Elisabetta: it was the beginning of a difficult cohabitation in his mother's house, which exacerbated pre-existing tensions. If Crisconio's art was not well accepted by the Neapolitan collecting market, markedly traditionalist, he instead found lovers among the middle class, to whom he sold his works at a low price. On January 27, 1946 he died in Portici. After his death he received from critics that attention he had not received in life. In recent decades there has been a re-evaluation of the artist, who has been considered by some as the greatest Neapolitan painter of the 20th century.
