In this case, the subject is a lion with gaping jaws, long considered the "king of animals", and associated with positive virtues and qualities such as strength, pride, majesty, nobility, and courage, but also royalty and wisdom. The sculptor's mastery is clearly visible the movement and power conferred to the animal, which seems to emerge from the marble itself and come to life.
