Jean-Baptiste Oudry was a French painter particularly known for his naturalistic images of animals and his still lifes of game depicting wild animals.
This splendid canvas, of extraordinary pictorial quality and particularly elaborate, presents a great variety of wild animals and fruits. They are all depicted with incredible miniaturistic precision and with an inimitable ability in rendering the plumage of birds and the fur of the hare. Even some insects appear painted with exceptional precision.
The most significant pictorial repertoire of Jean-Baptiste Oudry is highlighted in this important work which is unequivocally attributable to his hand.
The virtuosity at the tip of the brush is typical of his excellent painting which reached its highest points in the depiction of the hare, always hanging from a lace tied to a hind leg.
Jean-Baptiste Oudry's works are exhibited in important French and International Museums.
In Paris, the National Library of France houses a collection of his engravings.
The painting is in excellent condition, professionally cleaned (see photo before cleaning on our private site) with an old relining performed to perfection.
It is complete with its original frame in finely carved and lacquered walnut wood that perfectly matches the type of composition.
This important still life is of a truly extraordinary pictorial level with an almost photographic descriptive precision of animals and insects.
