Pair of gilded bronze sconces, France, first half of the 19th century, Empire style
Description:
Pair of gilded bronze sconces, France, first half of the 19th century, Empire style Measurements: cm W 26 x H 50 Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This particular pair of sconces, in chiseled and gilded bronze, dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Made in France, it offers a model characteristic of the Empire style. The central body, a hemisphere decorated with a star, joins two crossed arrows, with the tip pointing downwards and the feathered tail upwards. Two curved arms depart from the center, originating with curls and phytomorphic elements. They end with two female busts which, like caryatids, support the leafy bobeches on their heads. Electrified and functioning (to be checked), they have two semicircular lampshades in nuance with the gold of the bronze. The sconces are very decorative and of particular effect, with a curious and unusual design. The gold of the bronze brings preciousness and brightness and makes them suitable for any environment, displayed individually or in pairs, next to modern or antique furnishings.
