This elegant console was made in Italy during the Neoclassical period, in the second half of the 18th century. The top, quadrangular in shape with front corners cut at 45 degrees, is made of gray marble. The structure of the console is made of carved wood, lacquered in shades of ocher and gilded.
The thin band under the top is molded, with a gilded pearled reserve that creates plays of light and reflections. The four legs feature a carving characteristic of Neoclassicism. They originate from a circular gilded element that rests on a lacquered and gilded capital with fluting. The legs, which depart from this, are in the shape of an inverted truncated cone, tapered and fluted. The four feet, carved, are ovoid and gilded. From the origin of the legs, gilded wooden sculptures depicting draperies with still lifes of fruit lying inside descend frontally and laterally. The draperies are joined in the center by a female head in classical style, with a veil and wimple.
The console is characterized by decorativeness and gracefulness. Perfect in any type of environment, it can be used in an entrance or corridor, in living rooms and studies, but also in a bedroom. It can be displayed above a painting or a mirror, or you can place a clock, candlesticks, vases and cachepots, or other sculptures, both ancient and modern, on it. The neoclassical taste, in fact, makes it suitable in any furnishing context.
