This elegant Luigi XVI secretaire was made in France in the second half of the 18th century.
The piece of furniture is finely inlaid with wooden essences of different colors that create a pleasant, very decorative chromatic effect. On the front of the drop-front, a composition with musical instruments, scores and two doves surrounded by vegetal elements and a large classic-style drapery is inlaid. On the lower doors and on the sides, there are instead compositions of flowers inscribed within geometric frames. The inlays are pyrographed, so as to obtain greater volume and finish in the design, which appears indeed three-dimensional.
The secretaire consists of a marble top framed by a gilded bronze reserve. In the band below the top there is a drawer, with handles and lock in chiseled and gilded bronze. The keyholes of the drawer, the drop-front and the two doors are in chiseled bronze with a Luigi XVI bow motif. The large central drop-front hides inside a compartment with open shelves, six small drawers. The open drop-leaf door serves as a writing desk, with a leather top. The interior of the piece of furniture is well finished and cared for in details.
The lower part of the secretaire has two doors that conceal a compartment divided by a support surface.
This secretaire features a refined, sober and very elegant design. It does not have a large frontal footprint as it is not very deep: it develops laterally, allowing it to be used as a sideboard in a living room. Easily adaptable in any environment, next to antique or modern furniture, it is markedly decorative, bright and particularly pleasant.
