Mountain landscape with village and waterway SOLD
Description:
"Mountain landscape with village and waterway" ------- Jan Gabrielszoon Sonjè (Delft 1625 - Rotterdam 1707) -------- Oil on canvas ---------- Period II half of the 17th century --------- Canvas size cm.133 x 96 ---------- Beautiful lacquered box frame with gilded profiles cm. 152 x 116 -------- EXPERTISE written by PROF. FERDINANDO ARISI ------------ The painting is in perfect condition. --------- This luminous landscape, very pleasant and of good size, depicts a waterway that descends into the valley between villages and cliffs, forming waterfalls and small lakes where two bathers refresh themselves on a sunny day. -------- The vertical composition of the painting allows the author to give a strong sense of depth with the depiction of a landscape that starts from a mountainous massif to descend through a spectacular and dynamic scenery down into the valley. ---------- The work is a typical work of Jan Gabrielszoon Sonjè, a Flemish master of the '600s specialized in landscape painting. ------------ Almost exclusive subjects of his works were landscapes, often in the Italian style, fluvial, mountainous and wooded with architectures. ------------ Characteristics of his style are the luminosity of the skies and the panorama and the silvery splendor of the clouds in contrast to the dark middle and foregrounds, the well-defined trees and the small figures. (Wikipedia) ------------- All these peculiarities are well present in our painting as confirmed by the written expertise of prof. Ferdinando Arisi.
