"Saint John the Evangelist" unpublished oil on canvas by Gaetano Lapis (Cagli 1706-Rome 1776), known as il Carraccetto. Splendid painting of significant interest for enriching the catalog of the great master from the Marche region, a favorite pupil of Sebastiano Conca. Lapis was a highly regarded painter with commissions of considerable prestige, especially religious. In 1739 he was appointed among the "Virtuosi of the Pantheon" and in 1741 he became a member of the Academy of San Luca. In 1741 he was also "Director of the Academy or school of the nude in the Campidoglio" established by Pope Benedict XIV. The painting, in excellent condition, is accompanied by expertise from Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri. Beautiful gilded nineteenth-century frame. Canvas dimensions 100x74, with frame 120x94
