This delightful pair of lacquered and gilded wooden armchairs was made in France between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The bergère model of the armchair is characterized by a rather low shape, therefore with quite short legs, with slightly splayed armrests, comfortably padded along the entire length of the backrest and armrests, and equipped with a large mobile cushion. The wooden carvings that decorate the armrests, legs, and the band under the seat reflect the Louis XVI style that spread in the second half of the 18th century with some hints of the early 19th century Empire style. The decorations are geometric and a palmette in green lacquer coordinates the backrest and armrests, which end with a column element that rests on the seat. The legs, which originate from a quadrangular motif with gilded hemisphere, are truncated inverted cone-shaped, carved with geometric elements of classical taste.
These armchairs are perfectly usable and their shape makes them stand out for a comfortable and enveloping seat. They can be presented in pairs, next to sofas or on the sides of a console or a chest of drawers, and can be placed in living rooms, studies, entrances and even in a bedroom. They can also be used as fireside armchairs.
