This refined console table is convertible, by opening the top, into a game table. Made in the early 19th century, during the George III period, in England, it is in veneered wood and decorated with elegant inlays with different wood colors, creating chromatic contrasts of great decorative effect. The top of the console, rectangular in shape with 45-degree front corners, features inlays that create a perimeter frame with vegetal decorations and, inside, three ovals, still lifes with musical instruments, helmet, shield and banners, probably referring to the commissioning of the furniture. The top is hinged and, when open, becomes an octagonal support surface, paneled, for playing cards. The under-top band is enriched on the front by a drawer. Wooden inlays depict helmets, drums and banners on the sides inscribed inside rectangular frames. The four legs are in the shape of an inverted truncated pyramid adorned with two light frames at their origin.
This console table is very decorative and easily placed in any furnishing context, to be combined with antique or modern furniture. It can be designed for an entrance or a corridor, but also for a study or a living room, surmounted by a mirror or a painting.
