Pair of four-light sconces in chiselled and gilded bronze, France 19th century
Description:
Pair of four-light sconces in chiselled and gilded bronze, France 19th century Measurements: cm H 62 x W 44 x D 23 Private negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity The pair of four-light sconces was made of gilded and finely chased bronze. It was made in France in the 19th century, inspired by the famous models of the king's carver Jacques CAFFIERI (1678-1755), the most famous bronze worker of the Louis XV era and Rocaille taste. Caffieri's works are distinguished by their audacity, exuberance and high quality of workmanship. These sconces are therefore in Louis XV style; the bronze is carved with rocaille motifs with scroll decorations and phytomorphic and leafy motifs. The light-bearing arms are asymmetrical with respect to the central body, giving movement to the whole. The two sconces are mirrored to each other, making them harmonious when displayed next to each other. However, they can also be used individually, as they are very decorative and luminous thanks to the gilding of the bronze. They are also suitable for any environment and next to modern or antique furniture. In good condition, the electrical system needs to be checked. New images will be added shortly.
