Allegory of Eternity  Translated
Description:
"Allegory of Eternity" Large bronze sculpture, unique piece, lost-wax casting. Marcel Debut (Paris 1865 - 1933) with marks of the Parisian foundry "C & L" Deposee bronze garantiautitre. No. 8423. Dimensions: h. 60 width 32 depth 28 Executed between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (Art Nouveau). The work perfectly reflects the dictates of the Art Nouveau style, an artistic movement that developed at a European level with different names between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The bronze sculpture analyzed here fully highlights this artistic movement both in the sinuous pose of the woman and in the emphasis of the drapery and hair, capable of giving the image a sense of natural verisimilitude. The act of engraving the stone takes on an allegorical meaning of "Eternity", of indelible engraving on a support that does not suffer from the passage of time and therefore destined to be transmitted to future generations. The elegant movement that runs through the figure, devoid of any decorative exuberance, is accompanied by the natural elements represented by the stone, flowers and plants that surround the work, which highlight a linear and refined taste typical of the naturalistic aesthetic of Art Nouveau. It is a large and important bronze casting of the highest level executed by one of the most valid French sculptors of the early 20th century.
