Refined bronze sculpture with patina, in the style of the antique, depicting a mythological and propitiatory figure.
Description:
Refined bronze sculpture with patina, in the style of the antique, depicting a mythological and propitiatory figure, most likely part of a fountain. It is missing a cornucopia that would have been inserted into the hole visible in the picture. The original sculpture, discovered during the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum starting in 1766, is kept in the storage of the Archaeological Museum of Naples and is not a common reproduction. The original, from the Roman era, was exhibited in Naples in 2022 during the exhibition "L'altro Mann" - deposits on display - Objects never or rarely seen. This bronze sculpture with a beautiful patina, most likely a cast from the original, was made in the first half of the 19th century; this work, along with other sculptures, contributed, with their Hellenistic influence, to making the Roman houses and gardens of that era fascinating, rich in intimate taste, but also of representation. Our sculpture measures approximately: H.52cm width 33cm Period: within the first half of the 19th century. Italy, Naples
