This refined chest of drawers, which still retains an excellent patina, was made in Piedmont in the first half of the eighteenth century, the Baroque period. Veneered in walnut wood, the chest of drawers is richly decorated with inlays with elegant Baroque motifs of ramages and leafy volutes of great scenic effect. The inlays are in boxwood and burr, pyrographed to obtain greater three-dimensionality to the ornaments. The different colors of the wood essences create a play of light and dark that gives the furniture particular elegance. The top has a moved and shaped profile. In the center, the inlays create rocaille geometric elements, shells, acanthus leaves, flowers, and other phytomorphic elements. Inscribed within a mixtilinear frame is an inlaid landscape scene with a seated figure and a winged putto inlaid in ivory. The commode consists of four large drawers. The front and sides are moved and are connected to each other by rounded uprights of great value, also entirely inlaid. The chest of drawers rests on four feet with a shaped and moved line and is enriched by keyhole escutcheons and six handles for opening the drawers in gilded and finely chiseled bronze.
This chest of drawers, due to its executive refinement and compositional elegance, can be easily placed in any environment of your home, such as the bedroom, study, entrance, and living room. It is suitable to be combined with antique furniture, as well as with furniture of modern taste.
