Intense, elegant and vivid representation of an orchid branch. The painter (who signs himself in the lower right corner) manages to admirably capture the very moment in which these extraordinary and particular flowers show themselves at the peak of flowering. As known, orchids are "epiphytic" or are born on the branches of trees. The rarity of the painting, in addition to the artist's mastery, lies precisely in this detail of having depicted these flowers that entered the legend not cut and well arranged inside a vase but in nature in the prime of life. No "still life" therefore, not even "suspended nature" (the concept of "still life" or "stlleben" is superseded here by realism), only the idea of realistically shooting from life the most exhilarating moment of flowering.
