Pair of large four-light candelabra in lacquered and gilded wood, Genoa, 19th century
Description:
Pair of large four-light candelabra in lacquered and gilded wood, Genoa, 19th century Measurements: total height 210 cm Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by certificate of authenticity This large pair of lacquered and gilded wood candelabra was made in Genoa in the early 19th century in the Baroque style, inspired by the models and sculptures of Filippo Parodi (Genoa, 1630 – Genoa, July 22, 1702). The carved bases depict stylized rocks, lacquered in faux burnished bronze, from which tree trunks with branches and some leaves arise. One of the branches ends with a further ramification into four arms culminating in glazed porcelain bobeches and gilded bronze candle holders. A gilded wood-carved ivy branch wraps around the entire trunk of the tree, illuminating and embellishing the ensemble. Two delightful winged putti, in gilded wood and different in posture, climb delicately. The particular rocky base and the model of the little angels are clearly inspired by the works of the Baroque sculptor Filippo Parodi, a student of Bernini and active in Genoa for prestigious commissions, including those of the Doria Pamphili and Durazzo families. The pair of candelabra is very decorative and refined. Thanks to its considerable size, it can be placed in various settings, in the center or near corners, including entrances, studies, living rooms, and staircases.
