The painter is documented in Rome from 1632 to 1636, where he joined his brother Gregorio, who had settled there several years earlier. In Rome, the two came into contact with the Caravaggesque tradition, being mainly influenced by Ribera, Bartolomeo Manfredi, and Valentin de Boulogne.
