Antique bookcase - 18th century - walnut and bronze
Description:
Important Empire style bookcase in two modules entirely in walnut and bronze ornaments. Composed of two drawers internally lined with green velvet and in the lower part two doors that can be opened with a bronze key. The bookcase also features the identifying coat of arms of the Schmit maison.
Made by the renowned Schmit maison founded in Paris in 1818 by the cabinetmaker Frédéric Schmit, a pioneer in the elegant, luxury and furniture sector. In 1874 Grégorie Piollet, a merchant and furniture manufacturer, joined the company, so the house changed its name to "Schmit&Piollet." Around 1876, to prepare for the universal exhibitions and meet the needs of customers, the house secured the collaboration of renowned professionals: cabinetmakers, decorators, bronze workers, seat carpenters, upholsterers. For the charm of the production, the house won two gold medals at the Universal Exhibition of 1878 and 1889.
