Oil painting on canvas, measuring 60 x 75 cm without the frame and 70 x 85 cm with the contemporary frame, from the Umbrian school of the first half of the 17th century.
The painting is in a good state of readability and depicts one of the most widespread iconographic subjects in the Christian tradition, namely the Virgin Mary in adoration of the Infant Jesus; Mary is captured in a tender attitude towards her son, who feels safe near her.
Regarding the stylistic data and chromatic and compositional characteristics, we are faced with a work by a valuable Umbrian painter from the beginning of the 17th century; we can see this from the particular and characteristic style, rich in details and sweet colors worthy of this subject.
This work shines for its formal rigor of the scene mixed with an easy executive fluency, acute and varied ideas emerge with evidence and range from the skillful luminous contrasts to scenes gradually sweeter. To be noted is the sure trace of the brushstrokes, almost drawn and strongly illuminated, which reveal a graphic preparation and a cultivated and composite pictorial conduct, but here also highlights a rich drapery and a sweet and flowery compositional scheme as if the artist had made his own and re-elaborated the concepts of Italian painting that were being expressed at the beginning of this wonderful century for the development of artistic currents.
