"Mary Magdalene"
Tuscany, first half of the 17th century
Oil on canvas
Canvas dimensions 84 x 62 cm, frame 90 x 68 cm
The artwork is still on its original canvas and in good condition.
A 17th-century painting depicting a very attractive Magdalene who, while showing the iconographic attributes of her repentance, expresses a burgeoning femininity.
The splendid features, with wide open eyes and flowing hair, along with the pose that seems to offer her own body, are the image of seduction. The message of the female who induces temptation is evident, as are the references to the penance of the skull and the crucifix.
The author has a great communicative ability and the work stands out for an unusual lightness in depicting a theme often filled with exasperated suffering.
We are certainly facing an excellent example of Tuscan Baroque painting from the early 17th century, and the angelic face of the Magdalene with long, curly, and loose hair recalls the magnificent figures of Lippi and Botticelli in a 17th-century reinterpretation.
The canvas is in good condition considering the era, the pictorial layer is very healthy and has maintained all its pictorial and chromatic characteristics.
A certificate of authenticity and a descriptive sheet of the work will be issued.
