Museum-quality and unique
Book table/Writing desk/Console table Louis XVI inlaid Rolo,
in solid walnut, and inlays of various woods (maple, plum, cherry, etc.),
dating back to the second half of the 18th century.
Made with the knife inlay technique
and fitted inlay technique, both of which are used here.
On the top, within a double panel motif
with maple threading and plum wood inlays,
it features the classic overlapping diamond motif,
with a central rosette element in pyrographically decorated maple on a walnut burl background,
surrounded by a thick plum veneer.
The book-like opening reveals the spectacular impact
of the most refined Rolo inlay, always featuring the panel
with maple threading and plum inlays,
which in this case, frame the central element with concentric circles,
where the classic and thin racemes arranged in specular volutes stand out.
The truncated-pyramidal foot in cherry wood is splendid,
also veneered in walnut and threaded in maple,
ending with a vase-shaped support.
Skillfully and meticulously restored with patina.
Bands veneered in plum, poplar linings.
