Important painting on copper depicting "Ecce Homo".
The counterfeit face of Christ with his head crowned with thorns in its most traditional image
This is one of the most classic and representative depictions in ancient painting, in which the great masters of all Europe have tried their hand. Among these, Flemish and Spanish painters stand out for their intensity and dramatic realism.
Our splendid copper is a classic example of 16th-century Spanish painting strongly influenced by Flemish art and condenses the pictorial characteristics of these two great schools.
The conditions of the pictorial layer are truly excellent with a very fine craquelure and not even the slightest loss of color.
It is very rare to find copper paintings of this level, from this era and in this splendid state of preservation on the market. Furthermore, the size is very generous for this particular painting technique.
The splendid carved and openwork frame with foliage motifs, gilded in pure gold, increases the beauty and importance of the work.
