Large display plate, 43.5 cm, depicting the myth of Orpheus.
Savona, 16th century.
In this particular large-sized majolica, the ceramicist represents the myth of Orpheus in the center of the roundel, flanked by two dogs and a variety of animals on the rim. In the center, at the top and bottom, we find a tortoise with two geese or swans facing it. On the rest of the rim, dogs chase a hare, drink, or simply observe.
