Splendid and imaginative shell hosting a crab, made by master Toso.
The different processes follow one another: “excavation” glass is a type of processing that makes the surface rough with a matte finish imitating ancient glass, by “submersion,” and “hot applications” of raised decoration obtained during processing, when the glass is still hot, by adding glass to the surface of the work.
A combination of techniques to create a truly unique work. (The inside of the shell is hollow and smooth)
Very high quality.
Murano (Venice) - 20th century.
