Monsu' Bernardo "Brawl among Villains"  Translated
Description:
Unpublished painting depicting "Brawl among Villains" by Eberhard Keilhau known as Monsu' Bernardo (Helsingor 1624 - Rome 1687). The painting, depicting the allegory of taste and touch, was executed by Eberhard Keilhau, known in Italy as Monsu' Bernardo, the most famous painter of antiquity in Denmark. At the age of eighteen, he arrived in the Netherlands and worked in Rembrandt's workshop for two years. In addition to altarpieces, his early works, he was one of the most original genre painters and massively influenced the art of genre painters such as Salvator Rosa, Antonio Amorosi and other representatives of Italian painting of the 17th and 18th centuries, with visionary and popular subjects. After a period in Venice and Bergamo, in 1656, he arrived in Rome where he painted his most characteristic works, also influenced by Caravaggism and the School of the Bamboccianti. The work is accompanied by expertise from Prof. Maria Pia Mannini. The painting is set within a splendid contemporary gilded frame. Canvas dimensions 89.5x113, with frame 108x131.  Translated
