"Christ Carrying the Cross"

Flemish School of Flanders
Excellent state of preservation

This true jewel, painted in oil on an oval copper plate, is a Flemish work of extraordinary quality.
Its excellent condition allows us to grasp all its exceptional details and the exquisite painting technique of the Author. Paintings on copper of this level are rarely seen.
The depiction of the suffering face of Christ intent on carrying the Cross is one of the favorite themes of the great Flemish Masters who often portray a protagonist completely bloody and disfigured by pain.
In this case, the face of Christ, despite the signs of the outrages suffered, is presented with a sweet and serene, but tired and resigned expression.
We find this expression precisely in the analogous works of the famous Flemish Master Michael Coxie (Mechelen 1499-1592), a great interpreter of the Flemish school.
The extraordinary quality of the painting and the excellent condition are absolutely of museum standard.
