Splendid oil on canvas depicting a scene near the Tivoli waterfalls - late 17th century
Description:
Beautiful late 17th-century oil painting on canvas depicting a characteristic landscape of Lazio. Through an imaginative natural arch covered by dense vegetation, typical of proto-romanticist compositions of the late 17th century, we can glimpse the Temple of Apollo and thus the famous Tivoli waterfall that plunges into the Aniene river. On the banks of this river, a scene with figures comes to life in the foreground, including some prelates and a couple of well-dressed young nobles.
The painting with its contemporary frame is preserved in exceptional condition, considering that it seems to have never received any restoration intervention, therefore we find the original canvas without relining.
The dimensions of the painting including the frame are approximately 32cm x 43cm.
A certificate of historical authenticity is included with the sale.
