SOLD - Inlaid "crossbow" chest of drawers in ivory and various woods
Description:
Small chest of drawers with a broken front, also called "crossbow", from the late 1600s and early 1700s, from the Lombardy-Veneto area.
Front divided into three drawers with original boxwood knobs, veneered in different woods, and elegantly inlaid in ivory and various woods, representing oriental-style scenes.
The small parts of veneer used in the creation of the inlay are expertly "shaded" with the ancient technique of progressive burning in the sand in order to give an almost pictorial appearance to the wooden inlay.
Top and sides decorated with the same technique and materials.
Bracket feet.
Excellent state of conservation.
