Madonna and Child SOLD  Translated
Description:
Workshop of Guido Reni (Bologna, 1574 - 1642) Madonna in adoration of the sleeping child oil on canvas - The work is on its original canvas and still on the original frame Dimensions (cm): 72 x 95 with frame 88 x 113 - The Bolognese frame is contemporary, entirely sculpted and gilded This important 17th-century Emilian painting can be attributed to the extraordinary Bolognese production of the great master Guido Reni and his workshop, which included a significant number of top-level artists. The splendid workmanship, the refined colors, as well as the excellent state of preservation, suggest the attribution to an author working in close contact with the brilliant painter who founded a school and influenced Emilian painting and beyond in the years to come. The invention of this composition, typically from the 17th century, which sees the Virgin in prayer in three-quarter view, bent to adore the sleeping Child, whose little body lies before the viewer naked and curved, is to be attributed precisely to Guido Reni. This fascinating scene, given the success it enjoyed among collectors of the time, was then taken up by other painters throughout the 17th century, among whom the name of Giovan Battista Salvi, known as "Il Sassoferrato," stands out. The variants executed by the two important workshops saw the Virgin with her hands joined in prayer or, as in this case, with her hands on her chest. The painting is in excellent condition and is enriched by an important Bolognese frame in gilded wood, wonderfully sculpted in high relief with leafy motifs. The work is sold with a certificate of authenticity and accompanied by a detailed descriptive sheet.  Translated
