RARE BOLOGNESE SCHOOL ARC OF THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY - in solid walnut
Description:
Antique arc made of solid walnut wood of classic "Bolognese school". Rare example of a seventeenth-century piece of furniture of refined manufacture in original patina, also interesting for its small size. A common feature of these unusual and interesting wooden artifacts was the total or near-total exploitation of a single large internal compartment. Here we find the corbel foot of the traditional seventeenth-century Emilian furniture. Generally made for the large noble or upper middle-class kitchens with the main function of containing bread and flour, the arcs were also called "madie dei cavalieri" (knights’ kneading troughs) because saddles and horse tack were placed on the lid. The name "arcile" could therefore derive from the words "arcione" (saddle bow) or "arciere" (archer).
