Description:
Elegant and well-preserved mirror – fireplace overmantel from the Louis Philippe period (1840 – 1850) in gilded and carved wood. The upper part features "ribbon" carvings depicting a "love knot". These particular artifacts were commissioned and then given as gifts to newlyweds to adorn their living rooms (positioning them above a fireplace) or bedrooms.
The love knot is an auspicious sign of prosperity and future happiness.
