Japanese travel shrine with the Buddhist deity "Fugen Bosatsu", called "Pu Hieng" in China. It is mentioned in the Lotus Sutra text and is depicted seated on an elephant, sometimes with white skin as in this case.
Sculpture belonging to the early 19th century, in black lacquer on the outside with gilded hinges, and shaped and gilded doors like the rest, and lacquered with floral decorations and a white elephant on which the deity sits.
