Leandro da Ponte known as Leandro Bassano (Bassano 1557-Venice 1622) Workshop -------
Oil on canvas ------ 113 x 185 ------- frame 132 x 205 ---------
This large and fascinating rural scene, set in a domestic interior by candlelight, is a work easily attributable to the Bassano workshop, and in particular to that of Leandro, the fourth son of Jacopo, who, together with his brother Francesco, loved to reproduce the subjects conceived by their father and highly requested by clients from all over Europe. ---------
In this articulated interior environment, the three spaces illuminated by the firelight stand out, in the most typical Bassano style for rural and domestic representations, described with a suggestive naive flavor that decreed its enormous success.---------
The Bassano workshop throughout the 17th century was by far the most prolific and most famous producer of paintings with both sacred subjects, with splendid "Nativities" and "Adorations of the Shepherds", and secular subjects with the inevitable scenes in the fields and rural interiors always rich in characters dedicated to work.----------
Our large canvas is a perfect example of the typology of their works. ---------
The conditions of the painting are excellent, clean and perfectly relined.
