Lombard chest from the first half of the 17th century, made in the territory between Bergamo and Brescia (specifically: between the upper Lake Iseo and the Camonica Valley).
Lid-front-back-sides made of single solid walnut boards; lid with toothed chain and typical (slight) warping; free central front with perimeter framed by light ribbon-like carving; strongly projecting side pilasters with fluted and curved beaks, each terminating with four curls; high sculpted gadrooning with ovoid bosses emerging from acanthus leaves, supported by a linear shelf of 16th-century tradition; front feet with walnut animal paws, poplar rear supports; internal drawer and original lock.
Proportions, board thicknesses, high gadrooning, shelf, all characteristics that perpetuate 16th-century construction logic, in line with the traditionalism (or, if you will, the delay) typical of the Lombard highlands.
Restoration: in the rear left corner of the lid, a thin triangular fragment (3x25 cm) is a 19th-century restoration; the fourth upper curl on the right pilaster is also restored; the lid hinges are from the 18th century (they replaced the original ring hinges).
Overall, the furniture has reached our time in very good condition.
